Although Western New York is generally losing population, as the baby boomers age the percentage of seniors in our area will actually increase. Erie County estimates that by 2015 there will be a 73.8% increase in the number of seniors age 85 and older as compared to 1990 and that almost 1 in 4 residents will be age sixty or over (www.erie.gov/depts/seniorservices).

Our primary source of funding, the Federal Older Americans Act, will not keep pace with these demographics. Therefore, we continue to rely on both private and foundation support to meet the demand of our services.
